I know that I’m going to go back to posting my regular content soon, I just had to give myself a little break from doing so. But before I do, I have quite a bit to say, while still wanting to continue to use my voice to fight for what I believe in and the #blm movement. ✊🏿✊🏾✊🏽— — Growing up as a mixed Black woman, I acknowledge that I do have a passing privilege due to my skin color. I realize that I will never experience discrimination the same way my mother, my brother, my cousins, my aunts and my uncles do. However, I realized that still doesn’t take away from the racist & rude comments I have experienced in my lifetime. I’m not doing this for sympathy, I’m posting this in hopes of helping others understand all shapes + forms of racism that takes place in our world today. There are so many layers, and we need to break down systemic racism. Kids in my second grade class would see my mom pick me up from school and ask if I was adopted. And when I proceeded to tell them no, they would say I could still play with them because I was mainly white anyways. Family members would tell me I’m only pretty because I’m mixed. Friends have told me that because I’m not full black I can’t tell them to stop saying racist remarks. I stayed silent. For most of my whole life for simply wanting to fit in. George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, I’m so so sorry it took me this long, but I will not be silent any longer. And I promise I will never stay silent again. — — Last week my heart hurt so much, I couldn’t even sleep, think, or relax. I was upset, sad, disgusted, all of the above. After having serious conversations about racism with family members and trying to spread the importance of educating yourselves, signing petitions, I can say that I feel 100% more hopeful than I did last week. I am so hopeful for everyone that is speaking up. I am so grateful for people like @ajahzifit and @libbychristensen who show how important it is to speak up. ❤️✨ I am so hopeful that everyone who is speaking up is being heard. Enough IS enough. Change is coming. Our voices are powerful, don’t be afraid to use it and don’t ever stop using it. — — #blacklivesmatter
