James Dansby Swanson was born on February 11, 1994, to parent Cooter and Nancy. He experienced childhood in Kennesaw, Georgia. He went to Vanderbilt College and played school baseball for the Vanderbilt Commodores. He was picked by the Arizona Diamondbacks as first generally speaking in the 2015 Significant Association Baseball draft.
